Description:
This course provides instruction on basic concepts and elements of the transportation planning and programming process. Course participants will have the opportunity to explore various examples of how statewide and metropolitan planning and programming processes are carried out under the Federal transportation planning regulations. The course addresses real-world challenges and constraints States and MPOs face in their transportation planning and programming processes. Notable practices on elements such as partnerships, meaningful public engagement, and performance-based planning and programming will also be highlighted.
Audience:
Professional planners and financial analysts at state departments of transportation, metropolitan planning organizations, local governments, and transit operators and authorities.
Objectives:
- Enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of the transportation planning and programming process and its requirements.
- Provide tools and resources to help participants meaningfully engage stakeholders and effectively implement the planning and programming process.
- Explore notable practices for building and maintaining strong partnerships with local governments and agencies.
