Each day, transit agencies and their employees must manage a variety of incidents and events. They may also be called upon to respond to incidents or events affecting the community or region that they serve. The National Incident Management System, or NIMS, provides a systematic, proactive approach to preventing, protecting against, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating the effects of incidents, regardless of their cause, size, location, or complexity. By learning and using NIMS, transit agencies will be able to work together more effectively with all other agencies responding to incidents and events.
