NTI Program Areas

NTI develops and delivers training in alignment with the Federal Transit Administration’s key program areas. These courses address the most pressing needs of the public transit industry, from procurement and asset management to safety, planning, and innovation.

Each area below represents a focus of NTI’s curriculum, with example courses that illustrate the types of training opportunities we provide. As a prospective instructor, you can explore where your expertise may align.

Administration and Management

Provides training in procurement, contract administration, and organizational practices that ensure compliance with federal requirements and strengthen the operational capacity of transit agencies.
Example courses: Procurement I: Orientation to Transit Procurement, Procurement II: Risk Assessment and Basic Cost or Price Analysis, Procurement III: RFPs and Competitive Contract Negotiations, Procurement IV: Contract Administration

Budget and Policy

Supports financial stewardship and policy development by equipping transit professionals with the tools to meet federal reporting requirements, manage assets effectively, and make data-driven fiscal decisions.

Civil Rights

Advances understanding and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, ensuring that public transportation programs are delivered in full alignment with federal nondiscrimination and accessibility obligations.

Transit Planning & Environment

Provides education on federally mandated planning processes, environmental review, and public involvement, helping transit professionals balance community needs with compliance requirements in transportation decision-making.

Transportation Performance Management

Strengthens agencies’ ability to measure performance, analyze outcomes, and comply with federal performance management frameworks established under MAP-21 and subsequent legislation.

Transit Research & Innovation

Advances emerging practices, research findings, and new technologies to accelerate adoption of innovative solutions across the transit industry.

Transit Safety & Oversight
