About NTI
The National Transit Institute, at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, was established under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 to develop, promote, and deliver training and education programs for the public transit industry.

NTI Mission
The National Transit Institute’s mission is to provide training, education, and clearinghouse services in support of public transportation and quality of life in the United States.

We identify needs; we promote, develop, and deliver high quality programs and materials through cooperative partnerships with industry, government, institutions, and associations; and we serve as a catalyst for enhancing skills and performance in public transportation.

NTI Goals
In our vision spanning the next decade, we will be first in the minds of people who are concerned with training, education, and related services in support of public transportation.

We will be the premier clearinghouse resource for information and assistance in this area. We will be a valued partner with industry, public transportation service providers, Rutgers University, and trade associations. We will be regarded throughout the industry as an innovative and flexible organization that applies best practices in the services it provides to its customers.

NTI History
NTI was established in 1992 at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA). In 1999, we became part of the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center, housed at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. NTI is funded by a grant from the Federal Transit Administration.
